Tell us about a challenge at Penn that made you proud to be part of ISC.
I’m proud that the Tech Services team was able to continue to provide services to the employees who needed access to student systems and other applications during the pandemic. It was a challenge adjusting to remote work while still providing the high level of security and access our users expect from us. I’m happy ISC was able to navigate the challenge successfully.
What’s an interesting technical or business problem you’ve faced with ISC?
Recently, I worked on a project to streamline client requests on the mainframe. These requests included password resets, new accounts, account modifications, and system access. The team came up with idea of creating and implementing a “Mainframe” tile on the ISC Support Center website. The self-service aspect of the tile eliminated the need for several paper forms and many back-and-forth phone calls between customers and ISC staff. We appreciate how it helps us to move more immediately towards resolving issues for our clients.
What do you like best about working with clients?
Because of the type of work I do, I’ve been able to work with employees all over campus. It’s a nice way to meet and interact with many different people and departments. Often when people call, they’re in a very stressful situation. It’s rewarding to provide solutions that help alleviate their anxiety.
What lasting effects did the pandemic have on your role and your work?
I lost my mother to COVID, so that has had an enormous impact on every aspect of my life, professionally and personally. I appreciate the many efforts of the University to support the entire Penn community, from students and faculty to staff, through the pandemic. Everything from offering us testing and masks to flexible work arrangements made me feel supported and valued during a challenging period of my life.
What do you appreciate most about being on campus?
I find it exciting when the new students come back on campus. I enjoy the hustle and bustle of the campus, and the excitement they have for the new chapter in their lives. My husband and sisters all work at the Law School — we’re a big Penn family. When the weather is nice, I enjoy having lunch in the Law School courtyard with them.
What are you passionate about in your free time?
My newest passion is caring for my newborn grandson! I also love cruising and traveling to the Caribbean islands and around Mexico. I really love Turks and Caicos, and the Bahamas. I’m looking forward to taking a cruise to Greece next summer. I volunteer at local food banks as well. I’ve been doing it for many years, but with the heightened level of need these days, it feels more important than ever to donate and help. It also makes me aware and grateful for all the many blessings I have in my life.
What would you like people at Penn to know about you?
I love true-crime shows, investigative mysteries, and whodunits.
