Data from Workday is loaded into specifically created tables in the Human Capital Management collection designed to support Workday concepts and data structures. Upon the retirement of PennWorks and the mainframe Personnel/Payroll system, the legacy Salary Management collection will remain available for historical analysis. Only select columns in the EMPLOYEE table (and the EMPLOYEE_GENERAL view) and the JOB_CLASS table (and JOB_CLASS_GENERAL view) will be updated with Workday data, to support longitudinal and cross-collection reporting.
The Human Capital Management information is conceptually similar in many cases to the legacy PennWorks and mainframe Salary Management data. The following table provides a mapping from the Salary Management collection tables/views to those in the HCM collection.

Considerations for using EMPLOYEE/EMPLOYEE_GENERAL July 2019+
- Only select columns in the EMPLOYEE table (and the EMPLOYEE_GENERAL view) will be updated with Workday data, to support longitudinal reporting.
- Since the concept of Home Organization does not exist in Workday, the Home Dept ORG and Home School Center columns will be populated with the Penn Cost Center ORG (or Center) Code associated with the employee’s primary position
- Refer to the EMPLOYEE and EMPLOYEE_GENERAL element documentation for specifics about mappings from Workday data
- Rows will be retained for employees terminated prior to the implementation of Workday
- As of July 2019, Primary Appointment and Primary Academic Appointment elements are sourced from Workday and loaded to the EMPLOYEE table and are no longer calculated during the Warehouse load process
- Once a Worker has been terminated in Workday, his/her Primary and Primary Academic elements will be null
