Free & Legal (Venom Movie Screening): This movie night for students is being hosted by OIS on October 11, 10:30 pm at Cinemark Theater on Walnut. The free screening of “Venom” will be preceded by a brief discussion on DMCA, Penn’s copyright policy and 2-Step Verification. This movie night is open to all Penn students, however, due to limited theater seating pre-event registration is required. Kicking off Security Logging Question & Answer on October 11, 2018, 1:30 - 3:00 pm. OIS kicks off its first monthly Security Logging Question & Answer session at Van Pelt Library, room G101.7. The session is a dedicated opportunity to speak to Sam Jenkins, OIS Sr. IT Security Analyst, about ISC Security Logging Service (SLS) and the security logging in general. Have a query you’d like to refine or an alert you’d like to tune? Need help creating dashboards to share with your workgroup? In each session, we’ll answer your questions and help you work through your use cases. Subsequent walk-in sessions are held on the second Thursday of every month at the same location and time. |

Foreign Cyber Interference and Its Implications for Higher Education: OIS and the Center for Ethics and the Rule of Law (CERL) are hosting a timely discussion for the University of Pennsylvania community on the implications on foreign cyber interference and the University’s response to foreign cyber interference threats. Higher Education institutions behave in an open expression model potentially used by foreign entities to harvest research information and credentials. Claire Finkelstein, Algernon Biddle Professor of Law and Professor of Philosophy and Faculty Director of Center for Ethics and the Rule of Law, will present on foreign cyber interference and its impact on higher education institutions. Followed by a discussion on the effect of external interference on research, privacy and security at the University of Pennsylvania by Bob Desilets, Senior Information Security Analyst. The event will be held at the Law School, Fitts Auditorium, on November 6th, 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm. Please come early to grab lunch before the discussion.
