VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files as well as DVDs, Audio CDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols.
VLC can be used to replace the functionality of two previously recommended applications.
- QuickTime – VLC replaces QuickTime as the recommended video player on Windows due to security vulnerabilities and Apple’s discontinued support.
- Flip4Mac – VLC replaces Flip4Mac as a free alternative to play Window Media files on a Mac.
