Update: October 26, 2016. There is now a workaround available from the Connect to AirPennNet network.
On October 24, 2016, Apple released macOS version 10.12.1. Starting with the third beta of macOS 10.12.1, and now with its public release, Information Systems & Computing (ISC) has determined that mac 10.12.1 is not compatible and does not function with either AirPennNet or eduroam. Please note that the workaround of removing and configuring the computer using the iOS profile for AirPennNet does not fix the issue. The error commonly displayed is
“Authentication failed on network “AirPennNet’: The identity of the authentication server could not be established. Contact your network administrator to verify your configuration settings.”
At this point, the only option is a “Disconnect” button.
AirPennNet-Guest works as expected and will need to be used as an alternative at this time.
Apple has been notified and a bug report has been submitted. Until Apple addresses this issue with a future update, ISC strongly advises against installation of macOS 10.12.1 if you need connectivity with AirPennNet or eduroam.
